NP Rank:
Christian jailed for teaching religion to his children- Minnesota
Those were my thoughts.
"Before I say one more word, I call upon the State of Minnesota to release Tim Kinley before Christmas of this year.
On the surface, Tim Kinley is an average person like you or I. He works hard, loves his family and is law abiding, God fearing, church going person. As you read this article, keep in mind that most of our country's first immigrants came here to escape religious persecution. Our elected officials seem to have forgotten this. Further, keep in mind our rights guaranteed by WE THE PEOPLE'S Bill of Rights.
Amendment I of the USA BIll of Rights
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or
prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech,
or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to
petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
As you read this article, I ask you to envision the feelings that you would experience if you were put through this ordeal that defies any reasonable explanation other than simply being the result of unbridled power without conscience nor compassion....."

So this guy got annoyed at the wife, then because that was the case did not support the kids?
Looks like a vendetta here that started before the wife found someone else and before she left him. Perhaps it is because he is a bible basher and scared the kids to hell quoting brim stone to her kids.
Of course she got more sympathy he was not paying support money to the kids courts think kids first. Now this vendetta has gone completely over the top and he has ended up in jail. For what not paying support money to his kids. Now people are making it a political issue and here we see support for someone that could have been scaring his kids to death with fire and brimstone.
The truth maybe he was a complete pig and bully and seemingly a religious nut. I am certainly against indoctrinating children with religious fairy tales and scaring them with the imaginary spaghetti monster.

No Babel Fish, the Judge made a huge error.
This forced the man to appeal. HE did not have enough money to pay his attorney for the appeal and child support. Eventually e fell behind on child support.and his wifes attorneys fees that he was also ordered to pay.
She put him through hell. And eventually he prevailed.
HE should never have had to pay child support. He only had to because he could not get joint physical custody because she made her false allegations.
And then he one his appeal the original judge was over turned.
He should never have had to pay child support

I agree Babel, the assumption is made that the wife is the bad one, when it is the husband that didn't pay the child support. Where is the wife's side of the story. This story is one sided and seems to make the case that the man is in jail because he taught religion to his children. Where did that come from? Before I get more details, I am assuming it had to do with child support.

Like most of us he did not have deep pockets. He won on appeal. He fell short on his child support while he was paying the attorney to win the appeal. The wife complained in the divorce that he once shook one child and that he made them take bible lessons from him. The judge ordered supervised visits and that he was not allowed to teach his children using the bible and the 10 commandments. ON APPEAL IT WAS ALL OVER TURNED. I dont think you guys know how hard it is to win an appeal. It took 8 years. You would think the court should be required to make him whole, but they are not. He would never had to have paid child support if she did not make up the story about the shaken child. But worse is the judge ordering not to teach his own kids bible study. That is a 1st amendment right.. Teh wife had an affair. The wife ran off with the kids. And, as too often happens in divorces she made up a story of child abuse to get custody of the kid.
Those were my thoughts.

Hello
To all of you that saw this as a gross miscarriage of justice, Kudos - you get it.
To those of you who hung your hat on he should pay child support rather than pay an attorney for the appeal and/or suggested he might have been a closet wife beater or worse, I offer the following questions and comments. (Perhaps some of the reactions here are the best indicators of what anguish the man would feel being on the receiving end of your comments for 8 long years.
DO YOU NOT GET THAT HE WON ON APPEAL?
Do you not get that he should never have been ordered to pay child support? (Few are harsher than I am in my opinion that persons should pay child support that they LEGITIMATELY owe)
Do you not understand that he want joint physical custody, he wanted the children's time split between him and his ex wife.
Or are you going to forever brand him with the judges original order?
AGAIN, HE WON ON APPEAL. He should never have had to pay child support?
And he did not just stop paying child support, he could not pay all of his child support and pay his attorney for the appeal. Did you expect him to just live with the judges unjust order?
Did you want him to suffer the entire rest of his life with the stigma you are trying to attach to him instead of 8 years? Why did this take 8 years?
Do you not get that the first amendment prohibits the government from abridging religious rights?
He was a Baptist, not some off the wall bizarre religion.
Do you not understand that what happened to Tim is an example of what our USA's out of control judiciary does to control the citizens. The judiciary writes their rules so judiciary is unaccountable. The judge should have been removed from the bench per statute, yet she remains on the bench.
Judges make bad rulings and then it takes 8 years to win on appeal? The rules are written, no to assure justice but rather to make justice a matter of how much justice can you afford. This is how our USA government tries to get around the restrictions placed on it by the Constitution and Bill of Rights.
This is about the First amendment, the same amendment that guarantees freedom of speech. This is not about some one trying to get out of a traffic ticket. Some of you opposition people seem to be venting your anger for those who take their religion more seriously. (And no, I am not a bible banger, I know Tim through a Judicial reform group. My anger is based in the states violation of the first amendment)
And, on top of it, the state of Minnesota takes a percentage of child support as a fee. They have a incentive to require child support that they can TAX.
AND I WILL CLOSE WITH AGAIN, HE WON THE APPEAL. A COURT HEARD HIS ARGUMENTS AND FACTS AND HE WON. All of you that want to wander off into spurious speculation that he was a closet wife beater or worse to justify what is happening can just end you gyrations to spin this to put him in a bad light. The appelate court heard all the facts and overturned the judge. period.
Tim Kinley is owed sympathy for what he was forced to endure and kudos for being a Patriot in not allowing the gross injustice go unchecked.
Those were my thoughs

It doesn't matter if he won the appeal. He doesn't even see his kids anymore. Also, has anyone thought about what the kids' opinions are?
at 11:31 on February 26th, 2010
What do you mean it does not matter if he won the appeal? Are you just crazy or the xwife? And after years of his wife's brainwashing his kids, if they have a negative comment, What exactly would that prove?
But, in the interest of fairness I invite his kids to write to me and tell me their story publicly or privately.
