Christiane Amanpour's Move To ABC Official
Christiane Amanpour Officially Leaves CNN
CNN's Chief Foreign Correspondent Christiane Amanpour has officially left CNN for ABC after spending 27 years with the network. CNN ran an official press release full of praise from her now former colleagues at CNN. CNN's President Jim Walton said the decision to switch networks was not easy for Amanpour. Walton also mentioned the importance of Amanpour to CNN's brand.
"Her work burnished our news brand and gave it authority," said Walton.
Rumours of Amanpour leaving CNN have surprised many regular viewers. For years, Amanpour has put her face on CNN's feature coverage of defining news from all over the world. Her persona will forever be associated with CNN. So having her represent a different network will no doubt be confusing for both Amanpour's and CNN's fans.
On her end, Amanpour thanked CNN for being "her family" for so many years.
I leave CNN with the UTMOST respect, love and admiration for the company and everyone who works here. This has been my family and shared endeavor for the past 27 years and I am forever grateful and proud of all that we have accomplished.”
CNN did not disclose the reason why Amanpour was leaving, nor did Amanpour herself make any statements about her move on her Twitter page.
Amanpour is set to join ABC in April.
In its press release, ABC News said Amanpour will bring "international perspective" to ABC's analysis of domestic politics and policies.
