Christmas is from Christ Mass, a celebration of Jesus Christ. It began

as a day to celebrate his birth.  It is one of the major Christian holidays. But it is also a

non religious holiday as well.

For Christians Christmas is the day to celebrate the birth of Jesus, the son of God in

human form 2,000 years ago. The teaching of Jesus while he lived on earth are the basic core

of the Christian religion which now has two billion members. Going to special church

services and singing religious carols are part of the traditional celebration.  Some symbols are

a star, an angel, and a manger scene.

Today there are other Christmas traditions, the biggest one being Santa Claus. Santa

supposedly lives at the north pole, with elves who make toys which Santa then delivers

Christmas Eve night, on a sled pulled by eight or nine flying reindeer; giving toys to all

children who have been good.

Gift giving is another tradition. Gifts are bought and placed under an evergreen tree,

the Christmas tree, to be opened Christmas morning. Usually people give gifts to children

and exchange gifts with adult friends. Christmas cards are also exchanged, families gather

for big meals, carols, religious and/or secular are sung.

The Christmas/New Year week is also time for major parties, getting together, eating,

drinking, singing, visiting friends and family, wishing others a Merry Christmas. And of course

the Christmas season is the biggest consumer spending time of the year with every store

finding a reason their product would make a great Christmas gift.

I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, Christian, religious, secular, whatever/  To all a very Merry Christmas and peace on earth, goodwill toward all mankind.

Good christmas explainer 158. Just a story to add from a European Newspaper: "Jesus would throw the sub-prime bankers out of the Wallstreet temple today. (as he did with money exchange at the temple; people had to change from roman to temple money, the exchange rate fixed by the temple money dealers, the first scam ended)" So Jesus not sugarcoded but militant, most don't know this component we should remember now. 'Money and power is not everything as the Pope of Rome said. Happy Holidays, and it is not so important what we believe, but how we act.

Very good comment.

Jesus indeed wanted change, not just business as usual.

A very merry Christmas to you and your family and friends.
