Citizen journalism site gets directorVancouver SunPublished: Thursday, February 14, 2008Vancouver-based citizen journalism website NowPublic.com named Rachel Nixon as its global news director Wednesday.
The year-old NowPublic.com bills itself as the world's largest participatory news network with correspondents from 3,600 cities in 140 countries.
Nixon spent the last nine years with BBCNews.com, most recently as its deputy world editor with a staff of 45."We're thrilled and honoured to have a journalist as accomplished as Rachel join the NowPublic team," Leonard Brody, co-founder and CEO of NowPublic, said in a news release. "As we chart the course for entirely new means of gathering and distributing news, I can't imagine a more qualified individual to lead our editorial."
Nixon said: "The NowPublic team has blazed trails from day one and clearly mainstream media is now embracing the media model that NowPublic originated."
The website features stories, photos and videos sent in by contributors.
