Rebecca Duke, the wife of Clay Duke, spoke to the media Thursday about her husband's role in the Florida school board shooting. Appearing before reporters, Rebecca Duke referred to Clay Duke as a "gentle giant" who did not intend to hurt anyone.
Rebecca Duke said that her husband was an expert marksman and likely missed the school board members on purpose.
During the Florida shooting, Clay Duke expressed anger over the fact that Rebecca Duke had been let go by the school board. Rebeeca had worked as a teacher for special needs children and was fired last year.
During the Clay Duke wife interview, she said she regretted that her employment situation may have helped push her husband over the edge.
"I was down here trying to fill out applications and trying to get in some interviews so that I could actually say 'Honey, guess what? I got a job ... everything is going to be OK,'" she told reporters tearfully. "Evidently I didn't get that chance, and I'm sorry about that because I love my husband. He was really a gentle giant."
Rebecca and Clay Duke had been married since 1999. According to Rebecca, Clay Duke suffered from bipolar disorder but took his medication regularly.
