Times are tough all over. Here's an example of some creative finance on the part of one Cleveland, Ohio teacher.

HPD: Teacher Accused Of Prostitution

POSTED: 3:05 pm CDT August 18, 2008
UPDATED: 5:50 pm CDT August 18, 2008

HOUSTON -- A Cleveland High School teacher was charged with prostitution after meeting a man in an online chat room and soliciting him in a downtown Houston hotel, police told KPRC Local 2 Monday.

Police said Laurie Ann Lewis, 38, was arrested Tuesday at the Four Seasons, 1300 Lamar, in an undercover sting.

Investigators said Lewis agreed to meet her client at the hotel as an escort. She was arrested after asking for $300 to perform a sexual act, police said.

On the bright side, at least she wasn't knocking off any party-stores.

Emilio Lizardo, I like this story. It's good stuff. well actually it is not good stuff, it is kind of sad..for the people  affected by this, but thanks for bringing it to our attention. I wonder if her students were privy to the news reports?

Emilio Lizardo, I like this story. It's good stuff. She was charging $300.00 bucks, holy crap that must be some Math Lesson?  Media has reported many female teachers giving it away to students free!

I am guessing she has some sort of addiction.  Either sex or drugs cuz teaching pays enough without needing to sell your ass (or any other part of your body).

eastvanray, I hope you understand that here in the U.S., teachers (most) are under paid. Teachers are the creators of our youths minds, mentors and heros where few remain to be created in these times outside of sports. While you may believe that drugs or another addictions is involved and could be - i believe its only what we see here in the story, supplemental income... In the course of becoming a teacher, there is college and the on going education to stay within standards of teaching and that cost money, let alone the prior cost that must be repaid and the ability to live and remain a live does not cut it.

If the pay to be a teacher was better then maybe (maybe) she would not have been doing this course of action to make "tax free" money. By the way dose anyone ever see a male teacher doing these act, very seldom...

Ridiculous puritanical, politically correct attitudes completely unrelated to reality always lead to this kind of foolishness ... 'escort' services are commonly available everywhere now ... if this young lady enjoys her 2nd job for whatever reason, sell her a licence, tax her income, and let her do her thing ... of course, in any case she doesn't seem to be an entirely suitable educational role-model for our schoolkids ...

Emilio Lizardo, The reality of life in the U.S. in these times are beginning to show and present them selves. If what it takes to survive is this kind of action, then she is not alone in non-pro form of prostitution - along with teachers, you will find single mother, MILF's, college students and single women - all of whom are only doing these acts to survive in these struggling times.

While it remains off the street and out of general public view for the most part - it is also on the increase by leaps and bounds through out the U.S. via the internet and personals and these are not professionals escorts.

These are individuals doing what they do not want to do, but must to feed their children or just survive from month to month. Does anyone remember what it was like and told of in Russia after the fall of the Soviet Union, well now its the U.S. turn, Sadly...

Well, I can agree with you insofar as times are certainly getting tough ...

I know nothing about this unfortunate individual's situation - she certainly wasn't starving, but beyond that, who knows ...

She has now become just another monkey who did not take well to the training, so she will be made an example of, so that all the other monkeys will see what might happen to them if they get out of line ...

Nothing new or unusual about this at all, I am sorry to say - it's how things have always been done here on our stone-age planet...

These struggling times?  We in Canada and the US know nothing of real struggle.  Have you been to Africa or Asia?  My mother raised me on a single mothers salary working for the airlines (not a well paying job) and she never resorted to hooking.  My guess is that she had a roof over her head and food in her mouth (before resorting to hooking).  What else is "necessary"?  Maybe she couldn't afford designer sunglasses or a new SUV but teachers are role models and this is not the medel we want for our children.  I think we have unrealistic ideas about what constitutes bare necessities.  I guess now she will have to resort to selling meth or crack in addition to her body since she no longer has the right to teach our children.  If she wanted to be a ho she should have made a different career choice as her carreer.
