Of the 700 swimmers who took part in a race Sunday off Cronulla beach in Sydney, Australia, very few realized that they were swimming with sharks. One hammerhead was spotted near the racers, and another smaller shark was seen in the water beneath them.
The camera was unable to get a shot of the other shark. The hammerhead was spotted as competitors swam past a landmark called Shark Island.
Authorities used boats and helicopters to draw the sharks away from the swimmers. Competitors interviewed after the race seemed a little surprised but largely unfazed by the sharks' presence. "I think I still would've gone in," one woman said.
