CNN edits out Genocide Charges Against Sri Lanka, Complains M.I.A
CNN edits out Genocide charges against Sri Lanka, complains M.I.A [TamilNet, Saturday, 07 February 2009, 04:54 GMT] Oscar and Grammy award nominee, Eezham born music phenom, Maya Arulpragasam, uses "her fame to shed light on a growing international conflict" CNN says in its website. During an interview with CNN's Kareen Wynter, Friday, pointing an accusing finger at the Government of Sri Lanka for killing Tamil civilians, Maya says, "Tamils who are a bunch of people in Sri Lanka, are being wiped out; I am one of those people who made it out. My school got bombed, people in my village are getting killed," and adds that she needs music to get all this information out. Reliable sources told TamilNet that the singer accused CNN for editing out her references to Sri Lanka's Genocide, and for attempting to associate her music with violence. Maya Mathangi Arulpragasam, Grammy, Oscar nomineeCNN interviews M.I.A "Situation is dire now, with hundreds of thousands of lives at stake," the singer tells CNN. MIA'a smash hit "Paper Planes," featured on the sound track of award winning movie Slumdog Millionaire, a satire on immigration sterotypes, landed the singer a grammy nomination, the interviewer says.

So CNN why did it edit the interview? What is wrong with CNN? I really think that is the violation of rights. Editing the truth is not a good thing to do no matter what one says. I think that just because M.I.A said "Genocide" of Tamils what is the reason for CNN to edit this out I really do not understand it.

I admire what MIA as achieved. It is great. However I have reservations about her views about the ongoing conflict in Sri Lanka. As an artist it is appreciable that she brings out the human tragedy involved in conflicts. Her overall comments doesnot reflect on the role of LTTE in this human tragedy. LTTE's history is replete with atrocities. Few thousands of LTTEers activities are making the whole Tamil nation responsible for the present situation. It is regrettable. Most of the Tamils though share some political view of the LTTE does not condone most of the activities of the LTTE. The fact is that Tamils do not know where to turn or look for proper direction. The present tragedy is largely a making of the LTTE. Calling Sri Lankan government a genocidal regime is unacceptable. One may be critical about the brutal force that is being used to crush the LTTE which is invariably leading to human tragedy, at the same time we should point our fingers at LTTE for making the Sri Lankan government to take this step. If people don't learn from their mistakes they will repeat them.

She has the guts and courage to bring the truth about Sri Lanka to the world. It takes long time and difficulties to make understand the world people and bring the truth to the world. What is going on in Sri Lanka is merciless genocide and horrifying human tortures.
She is very great. She stand out as a human being. She is courageous and bravity.
Many who had spoken truth are either lost their lives or removed, examples Sacrates, Jesus Christ........ and the list goes on.
We have to pay a highest cost for Truth.
What is going in Sri Lanka is Genocide.
Those who deny it should go through the Sri Lankan History.
Along with M.I.A, I appeal to the world community to stop the human sufferings in Sri Lanka.
Killing is better than torturing. The amount of torture the Tamil people undergoing is enormous.
What those people will do without legs, arm, eyes, and with severe wounds. Many have lost both legs, both arms.
Is it a civilized world. Why the civilized world shy away from talking the truth.

Ya well she can say what she wants but most ppl can think for themselves.. if a group that uses child suicide bombers are not a terror group then who is? This is her point of view that she maybe got from the horses mouth.. this time the horse might have been her father.. who was a leader in the LTTE (If u search on wiki you will find out more about her and her family ties with the LTTE)
Its must be about 20 years since she left Sri Lanka. If she comes back now she will see how Tamils, Singhalese, Muslims and Burgers ( yes that’s right there are 2 more minorities in Sri Lanka that she left out.. ) living in Colombo now. Anyway if you want to know about LTTE just Google it… Their acts put all other terror groups to shame. They kill their own!!

MIA is supporting a branded terrorist organisation.
She should not have been allowed to perform at the grammys.
Its like having a supporter of Osama Bin Laden on stage.
What cause is Osama Bin LAden fighting for ? The Tamil Tigers are also in the same frame.
THATS THE TRUTH

CNN edited all the false statements made by MIA purely bacause CNN acted in a responsible manner and dint want to bring any disrepute to a country so proud of its heritage. Thanks CNN. I could only question the motives of MIA and actually feel sorry for her not being able to see both sides of the coin.

What seems very interesting is the fact that M.I.A believes that the Sri Lankan Army just simply wipes out innocent Tamil Civilians. But what she did not mention are the LTTE wiping out not only Sinhalese but also innocent Tamil people as well! I wonder if she has any slight idea about what Tamil Tiger suicide bombers do?

I 100% agree with M.I.A, because wiping out of tamils were not started after LTTE took up the arms, but it started long before LTTE took up the arms...
tamils fought in many peaceful ways against the utter discrimination enforced by the singhala governments, but it all resulted in blood killing 100s of tamils in 1950s, 1960s and 1970s... so Tamils were forced to take the arms...
M.I.A is one of many tamils experienced the pain of being a tamil in Srilanka and has a duty to tell the truth about Srilanka.

The Pro Government Of Sri Lanka (GOSL) lobby keeps harping only about LTTE-freedom fighter's- enrollment of children, use of suicide bombers etc but conveniently forget that the GOSL started attacking and killing Tamil civilians in a series of pogroms since 1958- followed by 1963 1973 1977 1983 and at other times, long before LTTE appeared on the scene . It must be remembered that Sinhalese thugs led by Yellow Robed Baldies( veneratyed by ordinary sinhalese) taking inspiration from the Mahavamsa- a series of unresearched . unscintific chronicles written by these baldies also attacked the Muslims in the 1915 Anti Muslim Riots- The GOSL has spent disproportionate amount of funds on their armed forces and in mass anti LTTE propaganda internationally-the fact is that the majority of Tamils support the LTTE- proscribed on a technicality that non state combatants are not allowed use of weapons and also by the diplomacy of the biggest anti Tamil Traitor of all time Mr Lakshman Kadirgamar( A Tamil bought over by Chandrika Kumaratunge) now their armed forces and allies are involved in using chemical bombs heavy weapons indiscrimanately fired against civilian tamils and using food and medicines as weapons of war - preventing access to foreign media and Humaniarian agencies- killing innocents including children - for whom they are shedding crocodile tears- not only that the GOSL also has asassinated many dissenters including Tamil MPs using thugs allied to the GOSl- Any dissenting view from Whites and the GOSL quickly labels them as ,white tigers, black tigers depending who is airing a contrary view to the GOSL's etc When the West and EU dont toe their line they turn to China Russia etc whose human rights records is legendary. The GOSL with the mass of Sinhala support has been and is involved in the most brutal inhuman practices to ensure ethnic cleansing and in what is now , rightly, being described in a campaign of Genocide against the native Elam Tamils. After all these brutality and inhuman behaviour it is impossible for the two races to live together so a two state SriLanka is the only viable solution for future peace in that island to what has been an intractable problem over 60 years. All this verbosity and Rhetoric about living together is a non starter. A Seperate Tamil Elam is not negotiable and The International community has begun to tilt towards that view despite all the Geo Politics influencing the Strategy of the Regional Super powers etc
