When sports stars move out of the limelight the thrill of playing at the highest level is gone and here Chris Lewis the former England Cricket medium fast bowler appears to have looked for his thrills in crime and in particular drug crime.

The trial of Lewis for allegedly trying to smuggle a large amount of cocaine into the UK will continue and Lewis has been remanded not on bail but in custody.

Basketball player Chad Kirnon was arrested with Lewis on the same charges.

A former England cricketer has been further remanded in custody after being charged with attempting to smuggle cocaine through Gatwick Airport.

Chris Lewis, 40, was arrested on December 8 when UK Border Agency staff found nearly 9lb (4kg) of the drug with an estimated street value of £200,000.

The substance was found hidden in baggage which arrived on a flight from St Lucia in the Caribbean at 6am.

The cocaine was in liquid form, concealed in fruit tins and discovered as part of routine checks at the West Sussex airport.

The former fast bowler and basketball player Chad Kirnon, 26, were arrested after arriving on the flight together and questioned by Customs officials before being charged.
