Code Pinks Buys RNC Credentials from Bloggers/Delegates

Anti-war protesters briefly interrupted John McCain’s acceptance speech Thursday night at the Republican National Convention.

One male protester and two female protesters wearing the traditional CodePink colors were removed from the hall by security officers. The male demonstrator had a sign that read “You can’t win an occupation” on one side, and “McCain votes against vets” on the other side.

The crowd tried to drown them out with chants of, “USA, USA.”

“My friends, my dear friends … please, please don’t be diverted by the crowd noise and the static,” McCain said. “I’m going to talk about it some more, but Americans want us to stop yelling at each other.”

By Albert N. Milliron, Editor Politisite.com, Opinion-Editorial

I was browsing some of the sites that are providing information at the Republican National Convention and found something very disturbing, people Buying and Selling their RNC credentials.

One of the Major rules violations of credentialing is that you are prohibited to all ow someone to borrow, buy or sell credentials.  The main reason for this is that security is maintained at a very high level during these vents.  Giving your credentials to another person disables the security system.

Bloggers have been given credentials at these events at the highest level in history.  Giving away, Buying or selling ones credentials will stifle any organization from being willing to provide credentials to Bloggers and Citizen Journalists in the future.

In the Case of Debates, and Political conventions, and other political events were secret service is involved , potential credentialed journalists are required to provide enough information for a background check.

So what is the result then. Folks are getting in to these events that have not successfully gone through a background check. This provides a security risk for the Event and the Secret Service and all of those who attend the event.

You got it right. They will consider Bloggers and Citizen journalists as security risks as they do not abide by the credentialing process rules.

I am on credentialed media databases. I got on those databases because I was a delegate for the Republican Party. I continued to receive credentials for the Democratic National Convention and the Republican national Convention since 1996. This year my application was bundled in with bloggers and I was refused credentials for the DNC. I follow journalistic rules and do not abuse the privilege. Journalists DO NOT sell their credentials!

The reason I am writing this is that I am concerned we all will be shut out due to the few who are buying and selling their credentials to people who have not gone through a basic background check. We all will be shut out in the future due to this.

I have provided a couple of the individuals who are doing so. The are breaking the Law and the Convention rules for journalists. If you ever want to be credentialed for anything. I suggest to expose these individuals and demand that they do not attempt to lend, buy or sell their credentials.

Note:  I put a few feelers out and have had several responses to purchase blogger credentials. One response to my messenger asked for $3200.00.

The Question, "how did code pink obtain for credentials to disrupt Palin and McCain speech?  Ther bought them from Bloggers

Press Advisory: CODEPINK to raise a ruckus at RNC

CODEPINK to “raise a ruckus” at Republican National Convention in St. Paul!

WHAT: CODEPINK to bring peace message, hard questions to RNC
WHEN:  Aug. 30 to Sept. 4
WHERE: Republican National Convention, St. Paul. CODEPINK meeting space: The Black Dog Cafe, 308 Prince St., St. Paul

ST. PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS – For the past five days, the leading anti-war group CODEPINK made headlines from The Denver Post, Salon.com to the Washington Times with their vivacious, creative peace message  at the Democratic National Convention in Denver. At this week’s Republican National Convention in the Twin Cities, nearly 100 members of the women-initiated group will make more headlines with vibrant demonstrations, creative costumes, songs, banners and hard questions for delegates and politicians gathered there. Some of our major events include:
On Sunday, Aug. 31:
*From 1 to 2 p.m., CODEPINK members will march, ride pink peace bikes, sing and rally down Nicollet Mall to Loring Park in Minneapolis, in the Liberty Parade 2008, a nonpartisan musical celebration of shared values – liberty, freedom, justice and free speech. (For more details, visit http://www.libertyparade2008.com/site/).
*From 5 to 7 p.m. they will host the “Reclaiming the Constitution” event at the RNC’s Civic Fest at the Convention Center at 1301 2nd Ave. S. They’ll carry an enormous paper Constitution – carried by several people at once — and celebrate freedom of speech by saying “Dissent is Patriotic!” “We Want A Peace Candidate!” “Close Guantanamo!” “Restore Habeus Corpus!” and “I Miss America!”
*At 9 p.m. CODEPINK will host its “They Spy, They Lie, We Pay, They Profit!” protest outside the AT&T  Salute to Screen Actors Guild at the Fine Line Music Cafe at 318 First Ave N. Minneapolis. We’ll protest Republicans passing of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillence Act (FISA) that gave telecoms like AT & T (unconstitutional wiretapping and access to our communications without a warrant. (We’ll host this again 8 p.m. Weds. outside an AT & T event at Brit’s Pub at 1110 Nicollet Mall in Minneapolis).
On Monday, Sept. 1:
* At 7:30 a.m., CODEPINK will “drop” huge banners with “Build Bridges, Not War!” messages off of the overpasses over highway 94E and 35E, perfectly timed for when Republican delegates are bussed through to St. Paul to the Excel Center.
* At 11 a.m. CODEPINK will host the a “Pro-Life, Pro-Democracy” pink rally within the anti-war march and rally at the Assembly at Cass Gilbert Memorial Park (at Cedar St and Sherburne Ave.) in St. Paul. They will march to the Xcel Center at 1 p.m. Their parade will be non-confrontational, with puppets, colorful props and banners meant to inspire curiosity and hope for change.
On Tuesday, Sept. 2:
*At 7:30 a.m., CODEPINK will “Pink Slip” McCain on Wabasha bridge in St. Paul.
*At 9 a.m., the “Peace Builder” team in hard hats and tool belts will construct” a cardboard and fabric platform for peace and security. They’ll carry it down Nicollet Mall in Minneapolis.
*At 7:30 p.m., they will stage a protest with the Rainforest Action Network, Oil Change and other groups outside a Big Oil fundraiser at Epic Entertainment, at 510 1st Ave. N Minneapolis, to demonstrate against the Republican’s devotion to the interest of Big Oil companies instead of the American people. Wearing yellow “Support Our Oil Companies” ribbons, waving “Freedom Flags” (flags with the logos of the major oil companies) and showering our fellow delegates with millions of “Oily Dollars, ” CODEPINK will mock Republicans support for more oil wars, surging gas prices and obscene profits for Big Oil, drilling everywhere regardless of consequences, and “no” to clean and renewable energy funding.
On Wednesday, Sept. 3:
*At 10 a.m. Wednesday, in full costume, CODEPINK will host a “Women Say No To War Pageant” at 5th St. and Nicollet Mall in Minneapolis, right outside the Republican National Committee’s “welcome rally” for John McCain.
On Thursday, Sept. 4:
*At 1 p.m., wearing in pink police uniforms, peace “gardeners” gear, “pink slips,” and formal “I Miss America” gowns, CODEPINK will raise a ruckus to “Bust McCain” around Peavey Plaza, near the delegate hotels.
*At 5:30 p.m., CODEPINK members and friends will form a human peace sign in Harriet Island Park (Plato Blvd.) in St. Paul, to be photographed from the sky as a beautiful, living art image. It’ll be as powerful as our “Make Out Not War” image created at the DNC (view it here http://www.huffingtonpost.com/...ot_b_121533.html).

politisite, I like this story. It's good article. Bloggers sell their name/ place, makes me thinking how many sell their fictious name for paid content.....

politisite, I like this story. It's very good stuff. It's great that bloggers have secured broad access to these events - but selling credentials is not going to help their cause. Also - what are the security implications of this?

I know that if Secret Service is involved and Candidates are doing interviews in the Big_Tent which is credentialed media only, they will call it a security breach and may shut down the Big Tent.  They will go to those lengths.  It is a security risk.  I can't believe these guys are doing this.

politisite, so much for accredited credibility!

Great catch and a sad state of affairs.

As goes integrity so goes legitimacy.

In case anyone is wondering, the Secret Service does not have a great sense of humor about such things.  However, being the person who shut down the tent could turn into a bit of fox hunt, only uglier, as the offender is pursued by displaced media types.

My remarks above were posted when this originally regarded reports of blogger credentials being sold at the Democratic Convention.

Please see this story for a look at the RNC speech disruptions.

Thank you.

politisite, this rarely happens.

I fear my remarks no longer refer to the material as orginally published.

Blogger credentials get you full media access. The credential this guy is selling isn't that. It only allows being in the hall. Probably a vender. There is no basis to this being a blogger. The big tent is a blogger only org that is not affiliated with the dnc. Creds for the big tent are hard to come by. So someone is begging online for access. Neither of these things indicates bloggers selling access. Get actual evidence before making accusations like this.

Thanks for your comment.  I am aware that the Big Tent is by Google/Youtube and the Daily Kos and is not affiliated with the DNC.  I used them as examples that there is buying and selling of credentials.  If you have blogger credentials then you are a blogger.  I have also added links to others that are selling actual credentials for the Blogger areas. The reports are that this is occuring.  If you are there, you know this is happening.

I can see it now...."This is Osama Bin Laden reporting from the Democratic National Convention for Al Jezeera TV.  Over to you Mohamed."

The are credentialed and are at the event.  No Kidding.

I guess they have to leave their explosive vests at the security check.

Has eBay created a category for pilfered passes yet?

0

No they are actively removing any selling of media credentials unless they are of an old event.  For example you can buy a RNC credential from 1994.

Here's an interesting update from DNC Chairman Howard Dean's camp, regarding bloggers' accreditation and access. It's a very different outlook than the one you've presented:

DNC Chairman Howard Dean held a barbecue lunch for the more than 120 bloggers who are credentialed for this year's Democratic National Convention. He began his remarks by telling the bloggers, "I know this will break your heart, but you have better credentials than the mainstream media does."

And that's very true. Most reporters have a "perimeter pass," which grants them entry to the convention area, but not to the Pepsi Center convention hall itself. A select few have hall and floor passes, granting them greater access. But all credentialed bloggers have at least a hall pass and very few restrictions on their activities. Dean also noted that there twice as many bloggers here in Denver then there were in Boston back in 2004.

After his remarks, Dean grabbed some BBQ and sat down, asking any interested bloggers to join the "scrum." Several did, chatting with Dean for about an hour before he jumped into his hybrid SUV and returned to the Pepsi Center for another event.

Jarrett Thanks for the post. One note thou.  These 120 bloggers you are speaking of are not a microcosm of the blogging community.  They are mostly if not all left leaning.  The RNC have credentialed cross-section of political views.  I was surprised when I saw the list of approved bloggers for this convention.

What I find quite interesting and to some extent disturbing is how the internet has taken over and reshaped the political landscape. Bloggers this, bloggers that, and what about the fact that half the pages on the net are unverified as being accurate info?

Now, while being a blogger myself, and wishing someone would credential me into the DNC, I think that in some respects there will need to be severe penalties for selling or loaning credentials in the future. Don't those credentials have the person's pic on them? Are they really that alterable? If it can be proven that a person's credentials were stolen or loaned, wouldn't they be liable for federal prosecution? Or at least liable for the extra Secret Service costs??

Be it funny as hell that someone from code pink started to strip during McCain's speech and that he has the attention span of a knat, "oh look, shiny lady", it still creates a dangerous situation, one I'm sure us Democrats would get blamed for.
