NP Rank:
Coffee Party Convention
The Facebook phenomenon Coffee Party movement is having it's first national convention this weekend. They are livestreaming online starting at 930am EST today on this Ustream link. The Convention is being held in Louisville, Kentucky September 24-26.
Started out of frustration by Annabel Park, as a rant about the state of politics since the 2010 elections, the Facebook comment on her page inspired a group which now numbers just under 300,000. The organisation has tapped into a demographic that seems to want constructive cooperation among current elected officials and to improve the existing system with open dialogue.
Billed (by others) as an opposition movement, to the Tea Party, Park vehemently contends that the Coffee Party will work with anyone who wants get involved in the governmental process as concerned citizens. True to her word the Coffee Party Convention has invited Tea Party advocate Amy Kremer to appear as one of the panelists, others include Larry Lessig and Dan Choi. The Coffee Party USA website is here.

Sorry, sarcasm or sincerity? Either way, I've been looking into this coffee party, the founder Ann Park is an Obama lackey and has previously attempted to work for his administration and others. This being the case i highly doubt something like this; "Our message to Congress: You work for us, not for corporations. We hired you and we get to fire you.", is not their true intentions (they being the Coffee party founders).

A bit of sarcasm Mike, glad you have a sense of humor! Despite the online rumors the Coffee Party appears to be what they claim. No big backers, no celebs with an agenda, and no funny hats... looks legit under scrutiny.

I would never humiliate the uneducated for their poor spelling habits. It's enough trouble correcting the constant misconceptions and misrepresentations that they glean from the left-wing media and repeat with out question. Especially if it is mocking and ridiculing someone or something they want to paint as conservative. The original intent of the Tea Party was to work with anyone who wanted to get involved in the governmental process as concerned citizens. The Tea party drew from all political sectors; Democrats, Libertarians, Independents, & Republicans. The Tea Party was a response to the neo-conservative influence around Bush policy making beginning in 2008. Unfortunately, some Republicans were quite willing to infiltrate and attempt to direct the nature of the movement. Palin comes to mind. To his credit, Ron Paul has spent time and resources to shut down much of it by keeping a focus on the policy not the politicians. Which now includes Obama, as he hasn't deviated from the policy path set by G.W.. Let's not be too surprised if The Coffee Party[how original] gains any momentum that the Democratic Party doesn't give lip service to that political opportunity.

With no regard towards the tea party or republicans or democrats, or even the state of the USA for that matter, my point still stands that this could possibly be a fraudulent grassroots movement.

Sitting in an Ocala Florida Starbucks, having a tall cup of Joe and thinking about a political party built around this wonderful drink just gives to me the jitters.
