The Libyan leader Col. Muammar Gadhafi has called for cease fire and negotiations with NATO countries carrying out air strikes against his forces. In an 80 minutes live broadcast, he said he will sign deals with western oil companies if that is what the coalition wanted. However he said that will be only if NATO stopped bombing but he refused to accept the key demand, not just of the rebels but many in the international community, for him to step down or leave the country. Many in the government feel as though they have opened the door to negotiations already by agreeing to an African Union roadmap to peace but his opponents are not serious about ending the fighting because they have refused to engage with Col. Gadhafi or his government.
