Colin Powell should
have been the first black
president.
"What we have to do is debate and define who we are and what we are and not just listen to dictates that come down from the right wing of the party," said Powell, who most recently served as secretary of state under President George W. Bush and who had been appointed chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under President George H.W. Bush.
Powell finds himself in the middle of an increasingly bitter family feud over how to bring the GOP back to life

Looks like Powell wants to move the party to the centre, while the ones on the far right of the party, feel that conservatism will win the day for them. I agree with your comment about first black President. His time has passed now too.

First we are not a Military Machine...who commits crimes by wiping out entire villages of innocent people...for the madness of Democrazy. Colin Powell a Republican should be in jail for his lies, his contempt and willingness to support violence to protect America's criminal past.

He should have been the Presidential candidate for the Republican. He is the only one left with integrity.

ahhh , my Dear Paschen : ) let's be real. He is not the only one. I know people from both
parties with integrity but many are not in office. We have many wonderful Americans with
integrity. The answer of getting them thru the expensive machine of campaigning now
keeps men of conscience away I am afraid.

Well, he is the only one that was all the way at the top of the Political game left with integrity and that was involved with the Bush administration and yet kept his integrity.
There for he would have been the only one as well able to defend the Republican with credibility.
Yes, the money machine is there and yet it did not stop Obama or Clinton not Mac Cain or Pallin.
It is all a matter of show business in the US and marketing. Not democracy though nor common sense. Those are mere illusions to let the masses feel good.

He is also credited for trying to cover-up the Mai Lai massacre in Vietnam when Lieutenant Cally order the extermination of an entire village of innocent people. Richard Nixon later pardoned Cally who walks the streets in the US today..

Powell has not an ounce of creditability...not only because he voted for Obama who is a Democrat, but also for his crimes in participating in the Vietnam War.
