Caracas, Venezuela, 23 June 2008. Today, Colombian permanent representative at the Organization of American States (OAS), Camilo Ospina Bernal, accused Nicargua for it abusive and aggressive behaviour. It also accused Managua for making terrorist promotion.  Colombia is anger at the shelter and refugee status given to Mexican -Lucia Morett - and Colombian (Martha Pérez Gutiérrez and Doris Bohórquez Torres) citizens who survived an illegal Bogota incursion in Ecuadorian territory on 1 March 2008.  Even though Bogotá considers these political refugees as terrorist and wanted them extradited, Managua has clearly rejected any such move.

In response to Colombian allegations, Denis Moncada Nicaraguan representative at OAS said that the Colombian refugees were not being processed at Ecuador at all. Thus, there was no legal restriction to their travel and stay in Nicaragua. Moncada added it was up to its country decide who is granted political asylum. He also denied Colombian charges the refugees were terrorists in Ecuador. The confrontation is due to the effects of US Plan Colombia, Moncada added.
