Colombia President Uribe denies bribery case
Churuguara, Falcon State, Venezuela, 21 August 2008. After attending a hearing at Congress for over two hours, Colombian President Alvaro Uribe pleaded not guilty in the bribery case involving his second term in office. He also challeged allegations made against his government dealings during the constitutional reform in 2004 as stated by Ex Congress MP Yidis Medina.
Few months ago, it emerged MP Yidis Medina, had been paid by government official to cast a deciding vote on constitutional reform in 2004 that allow Uribe a second term in office from 2006. This hearing was promoted by MP Jaime Durán from the opposition Liberal Party. If found guilty by Colombian Congress, President Alvaro Uribe would be judged by the Supreme Court. However, it is unlikely Uribe would undergo such predicaments as his political forces now control the congress.
