The Color of Money

In honour of the new US five dollar bill, we at NowPublic thought that we would have a look at some of the most colourful currencies from around the world. Feel free to add some photos of your own money to this story!

The redesigned $5 bill was unveiled on September 20, 2007, and was issued on March 13, 2008. Previously covered here on COLOURlovers, the redesign involves some very noticeable changes, mostly for security reasons, but also in an attempt to make the bill more friendly to the visually impaired.

The new five incorporates the use of micro printing of type to make it more difficult to copy. On the front, “FIVE DOLLARS” is written inside the left and right borders. “E PLURIBUS UNUM” is printed at the top of the shield. “USA” is between the columns of the shield and “USA FIVE” is printed on the edge of the most noticeable change, the giant purple “5″.

Australian money is washing machine proof (plastic) and colourful compared to some countries.

Our $50 notes are sometimes referred to as 'pineapples' due to their colour.

I actually borrowed these to take a picture. Teachers in Victoria are the lowest paid in Australia.

My picture is about mexican money. I like it because it's so colorful, they're always improving the size, design and material (now, some of them are plastics, not all). I really love mexican money, that's what I earn after all haha.

While traveling in Hong Kong, I had to stop and take a picture of the colorful currency. Unfortunately, the $2000 Hong Kong Dollars you see here only equate to $250 US Dollars. Boooo!

I took a mission trip to Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica over my spring break about a month ago. I shot the two photos out on my balcony, i loved the wood flooring, so I used it as a back drop.
