NP Rank:
Come With Me To Golgotha! by Mary Neal
Come with me on a spiritual trip to Golgotha, where my savior hangs dying
Can you see the dignitaries of the world's most powerful nation jeering at Him from beneath the cross?
Can you see the great military men with their superior weaponry, dividing His garments, one ready to pierce His side with a spear?
Can you see the chief priests and elders, devout servants of God, very sincere in their convictions and highly respected among God's people -
Can you see them spit on Him?
Can you hear the crowd -- masses of people who on the previous Sunday heralded Him into Jerusalem as King, bowing before Him, waving plam branches and shouting "Hosanna!"
Can you hear them now around His cross, bloodthirsty and still hoarse from their cries to Pilate,
"Crucify Him! Crucify Him!"
These people did not expect and will not accept a Messiah such as this one.
They want a savior who will use his might to destroy their enemies!
This Prince of Peace is a total disappointment to them.
Christ's message of love, forgiveness, and reconciliation is highly unacceptable and totally rejected!
For the crowd knows of my Lord's remarkable power
Many of them have witnessed His miracles!
It is considered treasonous for Jesus to refuse to use His miraculous power to crush the enemies that terrorize His country!
"Crucify Him!"
So you see, my brothers and my sisters, Golgotha is proof positive that
You can be from the world's most powerful nation;
You can conform to the teachings of priests, pastors, and elders;
You can even be firmly aligned with the moral majority;
And yet, you may be operating on the
Wrong Side of the Cross of Christ †
GOD CHANGES NOT. HE IS STILL THE GOD OF LOVE.
JESUS IS STILL THE PRINCE OF PEACE.
My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. John 10:27
And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him; for they know not the voice of strangers. John 10:5
Let us proceed from this day forward to carry the true message of God's love and offer of reconciliation through the shed blood of Jesus Christ! Let us strive for brotherhood among all peoples. HAPPY EASTER!

Eugene Grissom, in his 1874 hospital report while Superintendent of the Dorothea Dix Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina, wrote:
"It was discovered that the insane were not beasts and demons, but men whom disease had left disarmed and wounded in the struggle of life and whom, not unoften, some good Samaritan might lift up, and pour in oil and wine, and set anew on their journey rejoicing."This did not happen for my brother, Larry, but we can be good Samaritans for others whose lives are wrecked by mental illness. Let us strive to bring the resurrection of Easter into the lives of sick Americans by increasing access to mental health services and decriminalizing mental illness in our society.

duo, I enjoyed reading your poem and the words of Eugene Grissom, "It was discovered that the insane were not beasts and demons, but men whom disease had left disarmed and wounded in the struggle of life and whom, not unoften, some good Samaritan might lift up, and pour in oil and wine, and set anew on their journey rejoicing.", I find very moving. Unfortunately, social stigma and ignorance still surrounds mental illness. Thank you for all you do on behalf of your brother, Larry, and on behalf of the mentally ill.

Thank you so very much, Rhonda. Your kind words went right to my heart and activated my tear ducts. I must confess that I never knew when I began just what I was letting myself in for -- it has been very hard. Privatized prisons are big business, and so is the Taser industry. Reporting on billionaire law firms is hard work, too, I have found.
Washington approved three major bills to help American psychiatric patients this year. Our legislators care about what the voters care about, and voters cannot show their concern about injustices they do not know about. Thanks to many human rights advocates, voters are finally being made aware of how acute mental patients are treated. I am very proud of whatever help AIMI has been to that effort, against all odds and despite much powerful opposition.
If AIMI has been any help at all to mental patients and their families, it is largely due to all of you at NowPublic. Lord knows, we have been censored from many other media outlets. For many people, money is a powerful motivator.

Thank you, Reverend. Please pray for us as we continue to advocate for compassion and justice to acute mental patients. No one deserves to be imprisoned merely for being sick. Neither should they be Tasered to death like New Yorker, Inman Morales (Sept. 24, 2008); shot to death like 23-year-old Idriss Stelley (48 bullets, June 13, 2001, San Francisco), placed in deadly Restraint Chairs like famous singer, Sean LeVert (March 2008); killed on a Restraint Table like Tim Souders (Detroit). You can find stories about all of these psychiatric patients who were punished by death for being mentally unstable. Just look for other articles on NowPublic by Mary Neal.
I cannot tell you how my own mentally ill brother died while under secret arrest in Memphis/Shelby County Jail. His family has been asking for five years, yet the conspiracy of silence is so tight and includes such powerful forces that my family may never know the truth. Perhaps Larry Neal suffered a more terrible death than the patients listed above. We continue the quest for justice. No citizens should be secretly arrested and returned to their families dead without the need for explanation - even sick people.
Please visit our group on Care2 and tell others about our efforts. Like Dorothea Dix in the 1800's, we are advocating that mental patients belong in treatment, not prisons. See the link below.

Thanks Mary. I know the situation. The police arrested me once for pulling down yellow ribbons in the city when they went to War in Iraq, as I was protesting the war. They sent me to a Psych ward in a straight jacket and drugged me...beat me up. After sometime they had to let me go....and I have been very keen to have seen now 911 happen by them...and left the USA. It does me no good to sit in jail somewhere simply to protest......to get where? So I do better service to my country by being out of the country and writing and and being active that way. You might as well say you live in a Police State... They have camera's everywhere....so you are free to roam around in a national prison.... If anyone is mentally ill......they are. Take care. Mary.

Arbitrary democracy is not Constitutional. When citizens' civil rights are casually set aside or completely ignored at will - that's not a democracy, period.
