An EKOS poll released this morning suggests the Prime Minister Harper's Conservatives could win a majority if an election was called today.

The Conservatives, which were in a dead heat with the Liberal Party in early September, have made a steady climb, while the Liberal Party fortunes have been declining.

While Conservative Party fortunes have been rising, Michael Ignatieff's disapproval has been rising.  9.7

39.7% would vote for the Conservatives, 25.7% for the Liberals, 15.2 % for the NDP and 9.7% for the BLOC Quebecois and Green Party.

Incidentally, when voters were polled on the leaders, Stephen Harper had a 39% approval rating  and a 42% disapproval rating.  Michael Ignatieff had a 19% approval rating while 46% disapproved.

The poll would indicate that the Liberal Party has a leadership problem.  They trail in every province in Canada.

The federal Conservatives have widened their lead over the Liberals when it comes to voting intentions, a new poll suggests.

As the Tories' support shows signs of growing, disapproval ratings for Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff are also going up.

The EKOS poll, released Thursday exclusively to the CBC, found that 39.7 per cent of respondents supported the Conservatives, while the Liberals had 25.7 per cent backing. The New Democratic Party had the support of 15.2 per cent of respondents, with the Green Party and the Bloc Québécois both at 9.7 per cent.

Conservative support was up 3.7 percentage points from a poll released last week, while Liberal support was off by four points. The NDP's support was up by 1.3 points, the Green Party was off by 0.8 points and the Bloc slipped by 0.1.

Funny, both the liberal AND the conservative parties seem to have leadership problems in this country.

The Liberals here have been plagued with this every since PM Chretien left the scene.
