Once again conservative groups are organizing against GLSEN National Day of Silence.

[F]amily advocacy groups warn that GLSEN is using the day to try to indoctrinate kids and force a pro-gay agenda into schools — something they want kept out of class entirely.

The American Family Association (AFA) is organizing events counter to the message of the Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network (GLSEN) National Day of Silence to be held this Friday, April 16th.

The AFA, who claims to represent and stand for 'traditional family values' and pushes for a culture based on Biblical truth, issued an Action Alert on April 7, 2010, urging parents to keep their children home and join a national effort to restore to public education a proper understanding of the role of government-subsidized schools.

Exodus International, an "ex-gay" organization will also promote and oversee a Day of Truth. The Day of Truth was created in 2004 by the conservative legal organization Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) and is held the day following the National Day of Silence.

The Day of Truth allegedly seeks “to affirm every student’s constitutional right to free speech and to provide an opportunity to have an honest conversation about sexuality.”

GLSEN representatives see competing events differently

“We find it unfortunate that the ADF and now Exodus International tries to spin a message counter to ours, that anti-LGBT bullying is wrong,” GLSEN spokesman Daryl Presgraves said. “Students today feel more welcome and accepted, and have a sense of belonging that didn’t exist 20 years ago. Part of the Day of Truth is to take away from that, to spread the mistruths about 'conversion therapy.'”

What you can do to end the silence

Even though April 16th is fast-approaching, it is not too late to participate in GLSEN National Day of Silence

GLSEN says students at more than 5,000 middle and high schools are expected to participate, and over 30,000 people have joined a Facebook group promoting the effort. Many sport T-shirts or hand out literature promoting alliances between gay and straight students.

GLSEN distributes materials online outlining what students may do during class to support the Day of Silence, and it urges them to contact teachers and administrators before Friday to avoid running afoul of speech laws.

Why conservatives make fuss over every issue?

Not a pro-gay agenda, but pro-tolerance, pro-acceptance, pro-civility and pro-humanity. Its 2010 open up your eyes and arms or be left behind. Its still fascinating to me that most of the GOP would self-identify as Christians.
