Construction

Templehof airport was never finished. Unfortunately, WW2 came and the construction on this highly art deco building was halted. This resulted in lots of open stairways and non plastered walls.

Here you can see some of the construction - steel beams, re-inforced with concrete, then bricked up to fill in the space. On the outside, they would have done lath and plaster, and then wooden trim. Yes, there are asbestos floor tiles down - a remnant from the American Occupation and use of this as an airbase during the Berlin Airlifts.
