Recently in a hard hitting message, the prime minister Man Mohan Singh reminded Corporates about their social responsibilities. He urged them that as they are the chief beneficiary of the Economic liberalisation, they should discharge their social responsibility as well.Otherwise the growing inequality might lead to social unrest. He reminded them that,India still has extreme poverty so the promoters should cut their salary and there should not be too much ostentation. As expected this hard hitting advice did not go well with the captains of the industry living in their own ivory tower.
But,the fact is that the emergence of India economically is proving disastrous for the vast multitudes. The effect is same when you throw a heavy stone in the still water. It causes ripples and heavier the stone, longer the ripple. The millions residing in thousands of village had been leading a sedate and happy existence.Though deprived of any modern material artefact's,these people had no complaints and had very realistic aspirations. But once privacy invaded, their life has turned upside down. They are suddenly being judged by their bank balance and material possession.Unarmed, they have to compete with the heavily armed Commandos.A Village youth educated in the local vernacular dialect is being forced to compete with English speaking Public School Educated youngsters. And discrimination starts here.Whereas there are not enough English speaking manpower available for Call centre and BPO jobs, the rural youths have no avenues, except moving to urban centres and contributing in the ever increasing number of Slums.Unable to find any meaningful employment many indulge in unlawful activities in order to earn some quick bucks.Strange....that the Government is aware of its unawareness .
The party in power takes any decision taking into account the political dividends and as these are vast and unorganised groups scattered throughout the country and divided along with cast and creed lines, the incumbent state governments choose to do nothing.
The recent State election is an eye opener, however.Rural people have started to demand their share in the pie, forcing the government to make substantial hike in Agriculture and allied sectors,in the resent presented budget.
A few years ago you would see smiling faces and happy looking villagers.Though deprived of any luxury, they feared god and led a contented and happy life. Now they are being forced to change their way of life, run for money..without being appropriately equipped. This leads frustration and hundreds of farmer being in debt trap have Committed suicide or rather governments apathy forced them to take this extreme steps.Who is to blame....?
