A county politican threatened with murder for not having prayer?

I was reading about a case out in Craven County, North Carolina. See, the Board of Commissioners out there reguarly opens its meetings with sectarian prayer. Frankly, I don't think any prayer should open a governmental meeting, but at least the courts have ruled against prayers that are specific towards one religion. A Mr. Pat Gallo, who testified before the board, said this:

"You may need to get a gun; you’re going to need it for protection. There’s a group of Christians out here who believe in Christ…. What’s it going to be? Are you going to put your tail between your legs and pee in your pants? If your attorney doesn’t have the guts, get a new one."

I have read that quote a few times and I cannot help but think that may as well have been a death threat against the board for following the Constitution and not having the government advocate Mr. Gallo's personal religious beliefs though the force and power of the government. Who would the board need the protection from? Not the few atheists in that county who agree with the ruling, but people angry like Mr. Gallo.

Yes, Mr. Gallo believes in Christ and I believe in Thomas Paine, but I am not attempting to get writings from "The Age of Reason" by Mr. Paine recited by my local county board. Mr. Paine of course being much more a founding father of our secular republic than Christ. There are many Mr. Gallo's who gets angry if the government isn't carrying water for his religious beliefs. He is also the type to condone and dismiss vandalism against atheist billboards.

Now, Mr. Gallo of course would be very happy to have someone like Rick Santorum as our nation's next president. If anyone is familiar with the Comstock Laws, they were laws advocated by one Anthony Comstock, that made it illegal to deliver material that was considered"obscene, lewd, or lascivious". Especially when it comes to birth control.

Rick Santorum of course has stated he wants to increase obscenity prosecutions. Both have a war on sexual material they don't like. Just like the Republicans in Alabama who made it illegal in that state to sell sex toys. Yes, they ban sex toys in that state.

Santorum also has a problem with birth control and thinks it is just fine for states to have the power to ban it, or to ban consensual sex among gay men. Both have had their named ridiculed. Santorum you can look up, if you don't already know its' second meaning. Comstock saw his name devolve into the noun Comstockery. But, I would just say that he was a rhyme of that term, a mockery.
