Court issues notice to Pakistan govt; report says Davis CIA agent

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court issued the notice to the federal government over Diplomatic and Consular Privileges Act 1972, Geo News reported.
A petition has been filed against the law. The CJ LHC Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry refused to summon former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi saying its too early to call him at the moment.
The petitioner Azhar Siddiqui pleaded that no law gives diplomats license to kill. Later, the court adjourned the hearing till 14th March.

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Monday heard petitions regarding US national and double murder accused Raymond Davis, DawnNews reported.
The court directed the government to submit a response on March 14 in petitions regarding shifting Davis from Kot Lakhpat prison to Lahore Fort and the relevance and legality of the Vienna Convention.
Moreover, a contempt of court petition was also filed in the LHC against former central information secretary of the Pakistan People’s Party Fauzia Wahab for issuing statements regarding the Davis case.
Hearing Rana Ilamuddin Ghazi’s petition to shift Davis from Kot Lakhpat Jail to Lahore Fort, LHC Chief Justice Ejaz Chaudhry directed the government to submit a reply on March 14.
LHC Chief Justice Ejaz Chaudhry also heard a petition filed by Mohammad & Ahmad, a human rights and public interest litigation association, through counsel Mohammad Azhar Siddique, challenging the concept of diplomatic immunity as a violation of fundamental human rights.
The LHC subsequently directed the government to submit a reply in this regard on March 14.
Furthermore, another petition was filed by Rana Ilamuddin Ghazi stating that contempt of court proceedings should be initiated against Fauzia Wahab for issuing statements regarding the sub judice Davis case.

LONDON: The US gunman, Raymond Davis, who shot dead two men in Lahore, triggering a diplomatic crisis between Pakistan and the United States, is a CIA agent who was on assignment at the time of the incident, British newspaper claimed.
Based on interviews in the US and Pakistan, the newspaper quoted a Pakistani intelligence official that the 36-year-old former special forces soldier is employed by the CIA.
Pakistani officials believe the vehicle's occupants were also CIA because they came from the same suburban house where Davis lived.
The US refused Pakistani demands to interrogate the two men who crushed another Pakistan with vehicle and on Sunday a Pakistani intelligence official said they had left the country.
