CPD and Obama Campaign Reject Libertarians Demand for Inclusion in Presidential Debates

On the 19th of September 2008, the Libertarian Party and their members called the CPD [Commission for Presidential Debates] so that Bob Barr and other alternative candidates are included in the debate. The response has been for the CPD to treat the Libertarians and other Party Members as trash. Even though the CPD mistreated the Libertarians, the Libertarian Party and their members were able to maintain a positive attitude.

For those who do not know who is the CPD. The CPD is the Commission for Presidential Debates who are a non profit organization created by the Republicans and Democrats with the purpose of excluding alternative political parties from the debate.  According to the Libertarian Party and Bob Barr Campaign site, the initiators of a "secret agreement" to exclude alternative political parties have been Senator Lindsey Graham [Republican-South Carolina] and Representative Rahm Emanuel [Democrat-Illinois]. Attempts to interview a representative of the CPD was rejected.

22nd of September 2008: It appears that now the Libertarians have also taken their message to the Obama Camp. The Obama Camp has a toll free number in which all of the options are numbered and then the communication is apparentlt cut off when there is no representative. As of this writing, there are attempts to establish contact with the Obama Camp.

It is surreal that the Republicans and Democrats want to export democracy to the world but that the leadership does not appear to practice it at home. Many within the Republican and Democratic Party say that a vote outside of their parties is a "wasted" vote and then there is a minority who use forms of psychological pressure to wear down resistance to the status quo. It would be a great idea for the Republicans and Democrats to show the world the significance of freedom and democracy by allowing the Libertarians and Greens the right to make their voice heard in order for the people of the United States of America to make their decisions.

AlvarezGalloso, I like this story. It's good stuff.

On my last day covering the RNC a most unlikely duo took the stage at the UM - Ralph Nader and Jesse Ventura spoke to a crowd at the university about opening up the debates to third parties.

We, as voters and citizens, need to rip the debates from the hands of the CPD and put it into the hands of people who might actually care about voters hearing the options.

Thank You Mikasi. I will visit the Obama Campaign Site and see what happens.

What you failed to mention, was that Bob Dole introduced the bill to create this commission to keep a certain quirky Texan, Ross Perot, out of the debates as he had 19% of the vote in polls. Primarily Republicans turned into Perot supporters.

And also, polls show heavily that Barr and Paul pull voters from conservative McCain, as they are conservatives turned Libertarians.

I do agree, that their voices should be heard in the debates. I also think they should vote to see who gets to represent their party as well. Libertarians and Green party reps should be voted to represent their party, just as Dems and Reps do. It should be a democracy, not an 'anybody with an "id" and money can run'. Otherwise, you would have chaos up there and no one would get to have a voice.
