Police trooper from Monroe County Child Protective Services arrested Stagnitto after receiving a top to their child abuse hotline.

"Troopers think the time and effort it took to investigate the matter was serious business. Stagnitto was charged with falsely reporting an incident, which is a misdemeanor.

West Hartford Police Chief James Strillacci said even veteran officers were surprised by the number of strangers who knocked on the woman's door, called the house or drove by.

"We were saying to ourselves, 'The economy must be worse than we think if all of these able-bodied men are able to immediately drop everything and drive over to this neighborhood'" on a Monday morning, he said

Tragically, one of the men who responded to the fake craig's list ad went to another address and sexually assaulted a woman.
