Miami police say at least five people have been injured, and one person may have died, after a portion of a crane working on a high-rise construction project fell through the roof of an adjacent home being used as office space for the construction project.
The accident happened in the 2200 block of N. Bayshore drive in Miami just before 2 p.m.
Miami police sources said at least five people have been hurt, two of them critically, and one person appears to be trapped under the wreckage of the roof and may be dead.
Aerial pictures show a portion of what appears to be the crane's body lying in a giant hole in the home's tile roof.
It is standard practice when using a high rise crane for the operator to increase its height by lifting new sections into place. It's not yet known if that was taking place when the the crane section fell.
Police have yet to release the names of anyone involved in the accident.

ryan nadel, thanks for getting this story out so quickly. It will now show up on the home page for four hours. If new developments justify it, I'll renew this flag for another cycle.
I think this is an important story and would benefit from other NowPublic contributors working on it. I've flagged it as News Wanted and invite others in relevant locations to look for more evidence.
ryan nadel, I like this story. It's good stuff. I am watching the videos from WFOR Channel 4 News to see how the story unfolds. My wife, daughter, and myself had passed by the area on our way from vacation in Miami Beach at least 30 minutes before the crane fell. It is not a surprise since Bayshore Drive as well as the US 1 Section of Miami Florida is undergoing removations. The cars have to deal with cranes moving around. The same has applied to certain areas of Miami Beach. Personally, I had talked with my wife and daughter about the dangers of cranes in public places. The least that should have been done is to have the work done at night or have areas closed off. At the present time [according to WFOR], there is one death and five injuries with two of the five injured in critical condition. As soon as there are further developments, Now Public.com will be the first to be notified.
Thanks for your perspective, AlvarezGalloso.
ryan nadel, thanks for updates.
The names of the victims who died were Jeremy Thornsbury [21 years old] and Terrance Hennessey [59 years old]. The names of the injured who were classified as in good condition were Theron Cook [57 years old] and Russell Dyer [49 years old]. Dyer and Cook are expected to be discharged from hospital either today or tommorow. All of this comes in the wake of discussion in the legislature whether there should be a license for crane operators. [Courtesy of WFOR 4 CBS]
By any chance is this the same company involved in the other recent crane debacle in NYC?
