Creighton University Medical Center: Shooting in Omaha Hospital

The suspect in the shooting has been identified as Jeff Layten and he has died from his wounds after being shot by two police officers Wednesday morning.
Layten was the man who police were searching for after a domestic dispute in Burt County. Layten reportedly beat up his wife and then drove to her parent's house in Sarpy County. When officers tried to pull his car over, he got away on foot after crashing his car at 72nd and Q Street.
One of the police officers was hit in the foot, while another was hit in the thigh, but both are expected to make a full recovery.

Omaha police say the shooting is an 'officer-involved shooting', but have reassured the public that no suspect is at large. Two officers have sustained minor injuries, and the suspect was hit three times and is listed to be in critical condition.
There are preliminary reports that there has been a shooting inside Creighton University Medical Center, and one person told Channel 6 News that they were told to leave the hospital due to a shooting in the cafeteria, but police say the shooting did not take place there.
One witness said that two female officers asked him where the a pay phone was located, and a few minutes later he heard shots fired.
Police are setting up checkpoints around the hospital to try and speak to witnesses of the incident.
There is talk that the suspect is the same person that Ralston officers were searching for Wednesday morning.
That incident stemmed from a domestic dispute in Burt County.

Creighton's emergency room is open at this time.
