'Crime of Honour' Arrests in Kingston, Ontario, Canada

Again the question of Assimilation will be raised. Another example of many when new immigrants to this country bring the old ways into Canadian Society, as well as Canadian officials who again it seems do not ask the right questions of new immigrants, such as Canadians have the Rights and Freedoms in that all are equal. Certainly something that has fallen on deaf ears of this trio from Afghanistan.
This trio of accused murderers certainly show their cultural customs of practicing the Old Ways trump Canadas' laws when it comes to preserving the Canadian way of life, when we espouse Multiculturalism. Racist attitudes, marriage of convenience, murder and deceit seem to be a way of life and the status quo for this trio, whose country clearly have different views on the value of a human life, especially women and children as compared to Canada Customs where you do not kill your family over a disagreement. Apparently a simple grounding is not enough when a daughter makes friends with a Pakistani teenager. Hell, lets not just kill the daughter, lets kill the 13 year old sister too! and while we are at it, let throw the 1st wife into the mix and snuff out the first wife and make it a 3 for 3.
One can sure when even before the trial begins, the same racist attitudes and deciet practiced by this trio, will be used as a ploy by they and their lawyers who will whine,"These three people are innocent", you Canadians are only picking of them because they are from Afghanistan! My response is Yes, we are picking on them, Why? Because when it comes to Honour, there is no Honour in Snuffing out the Lives of your own Flesh and Blood because you feel inconvenienced by their attitudes of trying to live and thrive in Canada versus the brutality of living in the past in your native Afghanistan.
One may remember a couple of years ago, a small Quebec town with a small town councilor Andre Drouin hit the world media stage and was mocked by both Self Serving Politicians and an unclued public, when all they requested was before New Canadians hit our shores, they should read about our laws and customs, abide by Canadian Laws and Customs and get our Government to apprise these Newcomers what Canada is all about, join us as Canadians, but do not try to change us or insist we accommodate your customs at every Taxpayer expense. If our laws and customs offend the newcomers, then perhaps they should consider another country to immigrate to. Other Countries in Europe do this, why not us?
Needless to say this small Quebec town Herouxville suffered the slings and arrows of ridicule by many in the media, self serving politicians who rely on the Immigrant vote for political gain, and citizens who still feel blinded by the mantra of Multiculturalism and Diversity is great.
Some in the media started reporting Honour Killings and other criminal customary activities, unacceptable in Canada, but allowed openly in their Country. Little by little people who once ridiculed a small town and its councilor, started to open their eyes a little, though they still want multiculturalism, they became aware, not all is as "Groovy" as Self Serving Politicians led Canadians to Believe, especially when Racism is openly practiced by Immigrants of these Old Customs, contrary to our Canadian Customs. So you ask yourself, which Custom should trump, Canadian Customs or Theirs?
Crime of Honour Arrests
Cops say Family conspired in girls' deaths
By Rob Tripp, SunMedia
July 24, 2009KINGSTON -- A Montreal businessman charged with killing four members of his family conspired with his second wife and his oldest son to commit mass murder in a bid to restore his honour, relatives of one of the victims have told Sun Media.
The family members allege Mohammed Shafi had beaten his 19-year-old daughter Zainab and threatened recently to kill her and the woman he had passed off as his cousin.
She was his first wife, though he had concealed that fact since the family of three adults, all natives of Afghanistan, and seven children moved to Canada two years ago and settled in Montreal.
"We are convinced that this is a crime of honour, organized under the guidance of Mr. Shafi, his wife Tooba and their oldest son Hamed," Diba Masoomi wrote in an e-mail sent to Kingston Police more than two weeks ago.
Mohammed Shafi, 56, his wife Tooba, 39, and their son Hamed, 18, are each charged with four counts of first-degree murder and four counts of conspiracy to commit murder.

Multiculturalism is a positive thing, but only if it respects the mores of Canadian culture. To use the peace and tranquility(mostly) of Canada to continue old, discredited customs is despicable. These 'honour' crimes happen too often in Canada.

This is such a distressing story - such a waste of life.

The ironic thing is that Masoomi (the sister in France who's communicating with Kingston Police) tried to reassure the murdered wife that she would be "safe in a country such as Canada".

Thanks everyone for your comments, once again Canada accept cultures into this country, without fully explaining what is acceptable and not acceptable, whereby some of these cultures treat women and children lower than cattle, and pretty much treat them more as breeding stock. I think it is time for the government to get off their flabby asses, rethink assimilation as state, Hey! Women are equal to men, accept it, or get the hell out of Dodge. What galls me is the Kingston Police in this politically correct climate hesitated to first call this an Honour Killing, which is what it was. One more Bee in my Bonnet is Canadian Immigrations failure to correctly establish identities and relationships among immigrants. Now lets hit the Welfare angle, lets call it like it is shall we? It was brought to my attention that Ontarios provincial law R.S.O. 1990, c. F.3, s. 1 (2) contradicts the aims of a federal law ! This R.S.O. provision in Family Law is a Gaddamn Joke. Never mine the matter that our Western customs and values are undermined. So you have two spouses and both collect welfare, cause it looks like if one is not called a 1st wife but an aunt, certainly looks like a welfare fraud to me! I am sure once we delve deeper into this we will find Scams Galore. No wonder our F^*King Country is turning into a Deep Sh*thole. I say fire the lot of Immigration officials and elected officials who only see a paycheque and ethnic votes! It is time Canada stops being Played for Pansy Ass Suckers to the world, its time to start kickin Ass and takin names. What do you all say to that?

I certainly think it wouldn't go amiss to have some kind of reading material even for people, or some seminars for people to attend that explain clearly some of the cultural differences and ways of life between the country people are leaving behind and Canada.
Having been though the immigration process myself and writing the test to become a Canadian citizen, I know that such things do not exist, or if they do they are really badly advertised.

I think if somebody is leaving their Country and coming to Canada that they should do their own due diligence before arriving. It is not up to any of us to provide that type of information to foreigners. People decide on their own to come to Canada, therefore, should find out on their own what exactly Canada is all about first.

To be honest I really haven't looked closely at our immigration policy. I went through the process with my spouse, who is American. It was relatively painless, we showed up at the border with her furniture and got a temporary immigration permit.
We then went through the process within Canada to get her landed immigrant status. I had to get married first though:).
As far as multiculturism goes, I think in most places in the world is coming back to haunt them. I know when my parents came to Canada there was no official multicultural policy. Obviously newcomers to Canada will try to associate with what is familiar to them. At some point though I think it is necessary that we all get assimilated into the mainstream, with Canadian ideals and values.
We already have two founding nations and for those that have never met the other there is distrust. The key is to get to know one another.
In short, I don.t think we should have official multiculturalism, new Canadians are quite capable of maintaining their culture without government help.
Second generation Canadians, despite some obstacles, normally assimilate into the mainstream of Canadian society.
I don.t think I have any strong feelings either way, I just think this would be better.
I have seen too much hate around the world and we don.t need it in Canada

I agree Karl, thanks everyone for your comments, i hope to hear more on this story. Something has to be done about killing women and children for no other reason than a persons view that a innocent life is theirs to murder, especially their own children and family.

The main problem is that immigrants that culture ranges around a set religion and a set of cultural beliefs that are out of date with modern times and modern knowledge plus of course a more socialistic view of the rights of human beings.
They set up around their own temples and places of worship and expect the long term residence of their chosen nation they adopt to better their lives to accept the laws and cultural beliefs they bring with them.
The problem gets worse when members of these cultures introduce themselves to local politics as local politicians they want the country they have adopted to change and meet with their culture or be over rid by their culture and religious beliefs. Where as these immigrants should start learning that when in Rome you do as the Romans do. If they want to live in a society to improve their lives they should adapt to the laws and ways of the society.
in fact because they do not adapt they become their own worst enemies as the society they live in will eventually get so annoyed and the nationalist step in and make life worst for them. This is why countries that have a problem with their immigrants gradually change the laws to make it harder for immigrants to settle in their countries. The governments also find ways of deporting as many as they can.
There is the problem as well that you can not expect someone that lived in a shanty town, mud hut or in a very impoverished area to adapt to more effluent way of live in a modern country and society. This latter statement or any of my opinion is not any form of racialism or racialist attempt it is the damn truth and there is much proof.

Babel, this has nothing to do with modern times let alone socialistic views. Modern times are not without heinous crimes and socialism was and still is a blatant legalization of a crime. This is clearly breaking of rational and ethical rules a normal human being adheres to. You in your right mind do not initialize any force against any human human being who did not initialize a force or fraud against anybody else. That is the valid rule which goes beyond any culture or religion (including Canadian, whatever that might be). That is the real meaning of true tolerance.
