The laws prescribe 18 years of age for girls and 21 years of age for boys as the minimum age for marriage but life is not with the low

The evil of child marriage deprives numerous girls of the country of their constitutionally guaranteed rights of life, health, dignity and opportunity to develop. Medical research has established that girls are psychologically as well as physically not fit for the purposes of marriage and the logical consequences of consummation, pregnancy and child birth before the age of 18 years, at least. It has been established beyond doubt that a lion’s share of the deaths of nearly 300 pregnant women and thousands of children below the age of five years, per day, at an average, in the country, is caused due to early pregnancies, which in most of the cases in the Indian circumstances, is due to early marriages.
