MUSSOORIE, 9 Jan: Mussoorie has many government and non-government institutions of national importance like the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), Institute of Technical Management, and several others of national repute that lack adequate security and safety norms. Added to this, there are many schools of international fame, where the children of various nationalities are being imparted education in which the security is dependant on some guards from private companies, who do not have the adequate training and intellect to fight the menace of terrorism. Guards posted at the gates do not have the modern weapons necessary to combat a terrorist strike. In the wake of the Mumbai terror attack, it has become important that the administration and the institutions address the matter urgently before some untoward incident occurs.
Rajesh, a retired school teacher, says that the security staff in these institutions must be upgraded to avoid any untoward incident.
OP Uniyal, Nagar Palika President, says that the security of such places ought to be handed over to the CISF or any other capable central agency. He was of the view that private guards did not have the expertise in this regard. Important installations like the water supply tanks of the town required adequate safety and barbed wire enclosures to avoid a major catastrophe.
