A Cry for Help from Zimbabwe

According to the Media Institute of Southern Africa based in Windhoek, Namibia and published by the Zimbabwe Situation, ZBC [Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation] gave Robson Mhandu [General Manager of Television Production], Patrice Makova [News Editor], Sibonginkosi Milo [Executive Producer at the Indaba and Nhau Stations], Monica Gavera [Executive Producer at the National Language Department], and reporters [Brian Paradza, Robert Tapfumaneyi, Garikai Chaunza] two months paid leave under the condition that they turn in all of their identification and other accessories of the ZBC and never return until further notice. They are the latest victims in a purge of the State Run Media since the sacking of the ZBC Chief Executive Officer Henry Muradzikwa over a month ago because of his refusal to block MDC Advertisements during the Presidential Elections.

The Zimbabwe Situation also published a letter from Chris Garner in Zimbabwe with photos of the burn victims of ZANU-PF. The following is a plea for help.

Dear Friends,

... The few pictures below represent a very small proportion of  the results of  what Robert Mugabe is doing to the people who dared to vote, or were suspected of  voting against him. As you can see, the pictures were taken this week. The situation is seriously deteriorating and the time for talk  has long gone. When are world leaders going to take this matter more seriously and ACT? This is a war against the people of Zimbabwe, using state resources and the states military organs. Why is the free world allowing this to happen? Why is South Africa continuing the silence?  This is a crisis of major proportions, by any civilised standards. This is despite what people like Thabo Mbeki may say.

To bishop Tutu, I make a special plea to  you to go to Zimbabwe and show solidarity and prayer with these victims.  You have a special place in the hearts of all Africans. Please go there and pour oil to calm the troubled waters and ease the pain of these poor souls. They need you at this time.

I ask you all to do whatever you can to stop this silent genocide. This has to stop.

Regards

Chris Garner

My conscience made me publish the letter and the photo since the situation cannot be ignored.

Thanks jordan. It is important that Zimbabwe is not forgotten. After posting this report, I am convinced [a million times more] that a genocide is being perpetrated.

Thanks Rachel Nixon for your comments. I cannot sit back and allow this inhumanity to happen. It is because of Now Public that this inhumanity in Zimbabwe is being exposed. Alvarez Galloso.
