Cultural Activities Continue Despite Terrorism Threats
Karachi is not new to conflicts and violence but its people have forever proved to be quite resilient. However, suicide bombings happening in some cities of Pakistan like Peshawar, Quetta, Lahore and also Islamabad have certainly made the overall atmosphere gloomy in this metropolis too. But despite it, several cultural activities continue to happen. For example a visiting classical violinist will be playing this evening; other music performances are also scheduled; a performance bringing a 17th century miniature painting to life will be held soon; a citizen's archive festival kicks off in a few days...The artists community is in fact extremely vibrant and several shows are being inaugurated every day in various art galleries.
According to this news report, security has been intensified across Karachi following intelligence reports regarding terror threats today - on Friday.
According to the police, an extensive campaign has been launched to identify suspects and suspicious activities in the city during the past 24 hours. Meanwhile over 250 suspects have been detained from various city areas during overnight raids.
Police sources told DawnNews that most of the detainees are Afghan nationals, who were residing in Karachi illegally. They added that security has been beefed-up and snap checking intensified following credible security threats. Sniffing-dogs have also been placed at over a dozen sensitive locations.

地球上のすべての人々が団結し、われわれを隔てる世界中の壁を取り壊す様を想像してごらんなさい。ベルリンの壁の崩壊が、それが可能だと証明してくれた。

it means, "Imagine if you can, all the people on earth united to bring down all the walls that divide us for a better tomorrow. The fall of the Berlin wall is proof that we can."
Good story. It is the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall by the people.
The slogan back then was "We are the people" "we decide, not governments." It some what fits in this story.

Thank you for the story of cultural inspiration. I thought of the Cellist of Sarajevo as you remind us of the sustaining and transformative power of music and art.
