Cyclist died after being hit by a dump truck
Yesterday after 8 a.m. in the intersection of Russ Baker Way and Miller Road in Richmond (Vancouver - Canada) a cyclist was struck by a dump truck and died later in the hospital.
RICHMOND -- A cyclist who collided with a dump truck in Richmond Thursday morning has died of his injuries. The incident happened just after 8 a.m. at the intersection of Russ Baker Way and Miller Road. The man was transported to hospital but later died due to injuries sustained in the collision.
A collision between man and metal usually has a tragic outcome and, unfortunately for a male cyclist, that proved true yet again in Richmond yesterday.
Southbound traffic was slowed to a crawl coming off the Arthur Laing Bridge after a dump truck collided with a male cyclist at the intersection of Russ Bayer Way and Miller Road just after 8 a.m.
Emergency personnel rushed the critically injured cyclist to hospital, but he was declared dead soon after.
The intersection was blocked off for several hours as collision investigators studied the scene.
Police have not released the name of the cyclist.

I'm sorry but maybe I'm missing something here on NowPublic. Road accidents and much worse happen the world over on an hourly basis.
I could submit at least six (in highlighted format) that have occurred here in France today and that have been reported in local newspapers.
What exactly are the criteria at play here in determining that this highlighted piece whose intro adds (in my opinion) nothing to the rest of the story is a) a "world" story and b) worth a flag?

It's the photos. Though many of us are computer-bound by day and not always able to contribute eyewitness photos, this is such a case. Highlight is a great tool, but is just one of many that we can use to bring material to readers' attention.

Point taken. But a well rounded story has to have.....a story. This is highlight and photo....and as I wrote road accidents happen all the time everywhere. Are we all supposed to rush out tomorrow with our cameras and take pictures of (Lord knows what) and then stick them on a piece of highlighted text?

And also there could be eyewitnesses to the story on NP.

As a cyclist, I want to read about this stuff, 'this type of thing affects me say, on a daily basis'. Some of the categories here are limited. It is a kind of Travel issue but there isn't a category.
