D.C. Sniper No More, Victim’s Friend Witnessed Execution Last Night in Virginia

Milton Perry attended the execution.  Milton was a a co-worker of bus driver Conrad Johnson, 35, who was shot in the chest at a bus stop in Maryland. Milton stated to reporters: "I'm here because Conrad was the real deal."

John Muhammad was a veteran of the Gulf War and Muslim convert. John Muhammad even in death would never reveal why he stalked and shot people while getting gas or shopping.

For three weeks in October 2002, Muhammad created panic in Washington and its suburbs.

Because of Muhammad’s vicious acts people avoided going outside and avoided self-serve gas stations.

JARRATT, Va. — John Muhammad was executed Tuesday seven years after carrying out sniper attacks that terrorized the nation's capital for weeks and left 10 people dead. Muhammad, 48, died in five minutes at 9:11 p.m. from a lethal injection at the Greensville Correctional Center. He said nothing as relatives of his victims looked on behind mirrored glass.

Some people have lives fueled by events that result in anger. Some people can accommodate and diffuse their anger, and for others, it is like a hurricane, gathering fuel from precipitous events that eventually manifest in a violent outburst.

I don’t remember all of the details about John Allen Muhammad’s life, though I recall it was one seeded with angst and disappointment.

Put a person into a war setting. Introduce him to alternative cultures, and he might go exploring. In the instance of his becoming a Muslim, there were as many avenues toward radicalism and hate as there were toward peace and tolerance. He chose the violent path, and that was disastrous for him and society.

I recall reading about his living in community care centers and the like that sometimes provide counseling and assistance. Though, most often, such resources are inconsistent and in short supply, and the probability that one in serious need finding effective help is chancy at best.

He recruited a young man to join him. He manipulated the “boy” into being a monster as great has Muhammad himself. This is a dead end story with no good outcome.

We must explore the causes and find people like this, help them earlier in the cycle of doom before it is too late.

Wonder if the victims had a tailgate party preceding his execution?
