Dad takes on 30 gatecrashers with a whip, now faces charges
30 aggressive gatecrashers storm a home party and the angry owner drives them off with a whip. Guess who faces charges of using excessive force?  The home owner, of course.

This is exactly what happened to Sydney resident Dion Driman, whose son was having a home party last Saturday when the property was invaded by a gang of more than 30 gatecrashers, who kicked in the front door while a second group came round side of the house.  After an altercation with the ringleader, Mr Driman successfully drove them off using a 1.5 metre sjambok, a South African whip that resembles a thick riding crop.  No arrests were made as none of the gatecrashers could be identified, although Mr Driman claims the group has been harassing local residents for months:  "People have had enough. This gang has been terrorising people whose kids are having parties for months now. Somebody needed to stand up to them."

As yet another example of how the justice system treats crime victims, incredibly police are deliberating on whether Mr Driman's use of the whip involved "excessive force" - despite the odds of 30 men against him and the property damage involved.  Perhaps they should be seriously stop and think about whether there's something excessive about a home invasion.

Mr Driman, however, is unrepentant: "I would gladly do it again. They picked on the wrong guy."

Broken Simulacra, I like this story. It's good stuff.

I've posted a video here that shows what the good man might consider using next time 30 hostile individuals show up at his front gate !!

Broken Simulacra,  good story. I find it so amazing that people are so impassioned over the rights of the criminal, what ever happened to the rights of the victim where are their rights. They were not asking for what has happened to them, the criminal knows what they are doing is against the law and yet act like they are the ones inconvenienced. In my opinion if all they got were a few lashes from a sjambok, they should count themselves lucky. Out where I live trespassing is still a shoot able offense.

I'm glad to see that he took a hands-on approach here. Had he called the cops, the trespassers would have scattered before the cops could arrive. Now, though, they have it in their heads that there's an immediate risk to gate-crashing. (How one man can generate "excessive force" against 15 simultaneous opponents using a plastic whip is yet to be adequately explained)

I would have pulled out a shotgun and let slip the dogs of war if someone broke into my house.

Broken Simulacra, I like this story. It's good stuff.  This is a good news story.  A man successfully defended his home and family against a gang of thugs, beat them off and saved his family and friends from injury.  They should be contemplating a medal for the man!
