Daily Horoscope According to Blogs and Twitter
Sunday is the happiest day of the week and Wednesday is the worst day of the week, according to a recent study analyzing 2.4 million blogs, tweets, and internet messages by counting the number of positive and negative words used.
The research was conducted by two applied mathematicians, Christopher Danforth and Peter Dodds, at Vermont University. They found that in contrary to popular belief, Monday is not the day when people feel the most depressed, but Wednesday. Monday, surprisingly, is the second happiest day of the week, as people are still upbeat from the weekend.
The professors analyzed words from 2.4 million internet blogs, including Twitter. They awarded a score out of nine depending on how positive the words were. Negative words such as betray, cruel, hatred and suffocate all scored less than two, while positive words such as free, fun, and rainbow scored above eight.
Professor Danforth said: "People's daily experience is being reflected somewhat in what they're saying. What we're attempting to do is measure collective happiness on a much larger scale, similar to measuring the temperature outside. The energy of a few molecules bouncing around doesn't give a good indication of heat, you need billions or more.
