Daughter accused of leaving mom on maggot-filled bed
The daughter of an 83-year old woman has been accused of leaving her mother in a bed infested with maggots.
Concerned relatives had contacted the police when they were unable to reach her by phone.
SEATTLE – A Seattle woman faces criminal charges after police found her mother living in a bed infested with maggots, the seattlepi.com reports.
The 83-year-old mother suffers from dementia.
Police say officers went to the daughter’s South Seattle home in December after relatives could not reach her by phone. Court documents say officers and paramedics were nearly overcome with the smell of urine and rotting flesh.
Detectives said the unemployed daughter, 54-year-old Margaret A. George had withdrawn money from her mother's bank account for her personal use.
She has been charged with first-degree theft and second-degree criminal mistreatment.
Detectives reportedly discovered that George, who was unemployed, had transferred $47,000 out of her mother’s account and withdrew another $25,000 from the account. She also allegedly bought a car using a $13,700 cashier’s check taken from her mother’s account.
A detective says George made over $11,000 in ATM withdrawals from two casinos, the P-I reports.
George is now charged with first-degree theft and second-degree criminal mistreatment.
