Man Was Mistaken For Grown Jon Venables and Targeted by Vigilantes

David Calvert, 27, spoke out on Wednesday about having his identity mistaken for that of James Bulger killer Jon Venables who has been recently returned to prison for an unknown breach of his parole. The Telegraph has a photo of David Calvert and Jon Venables when he was 10-years-old.

David Calvert said that he was targeted online by groups who set up Facebook groups making false claims against him for being the child killer. He says he also got thousands of text messages and was forced to move twice in five years because his address would be posted online and he feared for his and his family's life.

He lives with his wife and family and says he is in constant fear someone will kill him and his family. He told The Daily Mail, which was reprinted in The Telegraph:

“It is an absolute nightmare. We were driven out of our home by people convinced I was Jon Venables living under a new identity.

“I tried to tell people I had nothing to do with it but people would not listen and we were forced to flee for our lives.

Police have also released a statement that David Calvert is not Jon Venables, but Calvert thinks it will not make that much difference. He has had to pull his children out of school and even though the online incidents happened four years ago, Calvert still fears for his life everyday.

The grown up identity of Jon Venables is not known and there is a media blackout on reporting anything related to either Jon Venables or the other child killer Robert Thompson.
