In a book out today David Cameron has promised to cut to the chase and reform our broken society.
"I'm going to be as radical a social reformer as Mrs Thatcher was an economic reformer… radical social reform is what this country needs right now.
His solution is to tackle the causes of problems: "It's dealing with the issues of family breakdown, welfare dependency, failing schools, crime, and the problems that we see in too many of our communities."
This echoes the reports published by the Centre of Social Justice (chaired by Iain Duncan Smith), which the Conservative Party has adopted.
This is a breath of fresh air, as Gordon Brown was quoted the other week insisting Britain was not broken. The sooner we accept our society is failing, the sooner we can repair the substantial damage done.
