Musha Cay

A Seattle woman claims magician David Copperfield sexually assaulted and threatened her when she was a guest at Musha Cay, Copperfied's private island in the Bahamas.

The 22-year-old victim, a fashion model and former Miss Washington USA contestant, says two summers ago, 52-year-old illusionist invited her to his $50 million private retreat on Musha Cay, after spotting her at a show in Kennewick. The lawsuit alleges Copperfield and his assistant misled her to Musha Cay by telling her that there would be some promotional work on the island that could lead to "modeling opportunities," and did not tell her that she would be alone with Copperfield.

When she arrived on the island, which is reachable only by private boat, on July 27, 2007, "she realized no one else was in attendance other than . . . Copperfield," the suit says. After the two dined, they went to the magician's room to watch a movie."Copperfield then attacked [her] and sexually assaulted her" and "threatened to kill her," despite the victim's attempt to fight him off, leaving her "extremely traumatized," her filing charges.
David Cooperfield says the lawsuit is extortion issuing the following statement: “Nothing of the sort ever happened. This lawsuit is extortion for money, plain and simple. Unfortunately, false claims like this only hurt the women who really have been abused, women who really need our help.”

According to Copperfield's attorneys, Angelo Calfo and Patty Eakes, the woman, whose name remains unrevealed,  "has a history of lying,...which continues in this lawsuit." The woman's attorney, Rebecca Roe, said she could not discuss the case.

Musha Cay, a 150 acre island in the southern Bahamas, is owned by David Copperfield. There are five high-end luxurious English Colonial-style villas on the island that can hold up to 24 guests. The island features palm trees, tropical vegetation, white sand beaches, and a live-in crew of 30 to pamper the guests. The island's base rate for up to 12 people is $37,500 per day. Sergey Brin, Google co-founder, was married on Musha Cay in May 2007.
