David Letterman issues a full Apology for his Palin Joke on tonight's Late Show with David Letterman.  Since this is what conservatives and others have asked of him, one might consider his apology as valid.  During the unscripted racially charged joke given by Don Imus on Imus in the Morning no amount of apologizing seemed to make those concerned happy.  One hopes that America has moved beyond that and will accept the apparent heart felt apology of Mr. Letterman.  Still groups intend to picket his studios despite the apology.  "he made the joke and he can't take it back" said one in a woman's group near New York.

I told a joke that was beyond flawed, and my intent is completely meaningless compared to the perception" of the joke by viewers, he said during Monday's taping of "Late Night with David Letterman," according to a transcript given to Reuters.

"And since it was a joke I told, I feel that I need to do the right thing here and apologize for having told that joke," he said. "It's not your fault that it was misunderstood, it's my fault."

"I would like to apologize especially to the two daughters involved, Bristol and Willow, and also to the Governor and her family and everybody else who was outraged by the joke. I'm sorry about it and I'll try to do better in the future," he said.

I take full blame for that. I told a bad joke. I told a joke that was beyond flawed, and my intent is completely meaningless compared to the perception. And since it was a joke I told, I feel that I need to do the right thing here and apologize for having told that joke. It’s not your fault that it was misunderstood, it’s my fault. That it was misunderstood.” (audience applauds) “Thank you. So I would like to apologize, especially to the two daughters involved, Bristol and Willow, and also to the Governor and her family and everybody else who was outraged by the joke. I’m sorry about it and I’ll try to do better in the future. Thank you very much.” (audience applause)

Your TV set would not affect the ratings, unless you take part in the monitoring and have a box that keeps track, however you would know since you have to agree to let them put the box on your TV.

I think he may just have beaten his rivals and send him into the dark spot. With J.L. gone D.L. may be the new star now. Controversy will just help him get up there.

The trick will be to stay up there.

I watched him tonite and immediately turned it off for I hope his ratings don't go up because of this...for it is temporary..

He is still clueless.  We all know he was forced.  All the talking heads sitting around trying to come up with his excuse of perception?  POLLLEESe! Please.

People can still affect his ratings and refuse to buy from his sponsors.  It can take time but may the force be with the cause.

Genuine sincerity is not possible from this clown
