The Day That Twitter Died

by Markus Schlegel | July 23, 2008 at 06:34 pm | 402 views | 10 comments

Today, followers and followees disappeared en masse for numerous users of the popular microblogging service.

Reports at 2200 h UTC on Wednesday evening are that users have lost up to 2500 contacts from their list of followers.

The outage of this service's contact database comes on the heels of months-long problems with the dispatch of messages via SMS and instant messengers, services initially at the core of the concept of Twitter.

Irrespective of how long or short it may take Twitter to fix the glitch, the web of trust between Twitter and its users could be torn for good.

Markus Schlegel, I like this story. Twitter says:

Twitter is currently down for maintenance.
We expect to be back in about an hour. Thanks for your patience.

I always have problems with 'over tweeting twitter'. I don't even tweet that much!

Markus Schlegel, I like this story. It's good stuff.  I lost about 100.  What they need is the Caspio database that is used by news services.  Can't use junk.  It was down for maintance all night and was up again this morning with 30 followers missing and 100 I watch missing.  I am lucky as I only have political folks that give me a blub once in a while.  I was able to add them cack in about 10 minutes

I seem to have lost a few, too... not like I had legions of 'em, but still.
