Happy independence day all you other American folks... And any of you Brits who wants to celebrate not having to deal with these wacky colonies anymore. :)
But seriously. I love my country. I don't always agree with the way it is being governed (quite often in recent years) and there are a great many social problems and economic problems we as a nation have yet to solve. But I firmly believe that this country's commitment to personal freedoms and rights are a good foundation for our society. (Just don't get me started on how those rights should translate into actual personal responsibility more often than they do... that's a libertarian rant for another time).
I am a woman who has spent most of her life outside the traditional female role... I build things with my hands as a carpenter and welder, I was the only girl in my major of technical direction at university. I have been blessed to live in a country and an age where not only have I been able to choose that path for myself, I have met only rarely with judgement or criticism for doing so. I can't think of very many other places on this earth where that would be as true.
So... this photo concept is a blatant rip off of Mav's 365 from back in February. The flag image is by Jasper Johns. And I borrowed a couple of textures from Sick Little Monkey's texture set to make it more interesting.
oh... and it looks way better this way
