Washington, DC – The Museum of American History reopened to the public after a 2 year renovation. General Colin Powell (Ret.) read the Gettysburg Address to the assemblage while costumed figures from history circulated through the crowd.
A vintage cannon was fired to celebrate the re-opening. As people covered their ears anticipating a second firing, one of the cannoneers jokingly advised the crowd that due to budget cuts the Smithsonian could only afford the one firing.
