DC: Connecticut Ave danger to people and protectors
Forest Hills, DC - Late in 2007 a pedestrian was struck and killed while walking in a marked crosswalk at Connecticut Avenue and Ellicott Street. The DC Government promised changes. One of those changes was the installation of bright yellow signs on Connecticut Avenue between the northbound and the southbound lanes.
These signs remind drivers to share the road with pedestrians. One of these signs still leans gallantly showing the scars of automotive brutalization. The other sign was struck with sufficient force to dislodge it from the pavement. It now rests wounded with the makeshift memorial to that recently fallen pedestrian.
A few blocks south another piece of city property is stretched out prone a half block from its foundation. A 2 headed parking meter, CT4409NW ( 4409 Connecticut Avenue NW ) lies in the flowers at 4501 Connecticut Avenue.
Connecticut Avenue, not safe for man nor metal, but it keeps the scrap metal industry thriving.
BACKGROUND:
A 72 year old grandmother safely crossed 5 of 6 lanes of Connecticut Avenue traffic on November 15, 2007. She was stuck by a truck and died in the sixth lane. The driver was not charged.
For a few days after the accident the Metropolitian Police Department provided a uniformed officer in a marked police car at the scene. The police car was used to drive along side pedestrians crossing Connecticut Avenue when traffic was heavy.
Video and text coverage of original accident available at: WJLA-TV.

I hear you there. Now, if the location of your piece is specified in the tagline at the bottom of your post, your article should automatically pop-up in your "local" section as well as in World.
Please let us know if you're having any problems.
