Washington, DC – At 1pm on a Thursday people lined up for reduced hours of service at the Cleveland Park Library. “Due to the economy”, libraries across DC are opening a half hour to 4 hours later and closing up to 4 hours earlier on schedules guaranteed to bewilder and confuse many patrons as they stand in the cold.

It's a shame that libraries are feeling financial pressures too. Increasingly people will need libraries for their own research and because borrowing books is far cheaper than buying. I had heard that use of libraries was skyrocketing.
