The operator of the train that was moving has been identified as Jeanice McMillan, 42, of Springfield, Va.

The passengers who were killed were Mary Doolittle, 59, of northwest Washington; Ana Fernandez, 40, of Hyattsville, Md.; Dennis Hawkins, 64, of southeast Washington and Lavonda King, 23, of northeast D.C.

It was not immediately clear whether the passengers were on the train that was moving or the one that was stopped awaiting the train ahead of it to clear a station.

More information has also been released about the possible cause of the DC Metro crash.  In information given to the press on June 23, 2009 investogators revealed that the commuter train had been in automatic mode with the brake on when the crash occured.

On June 24, 2009 it was announced that Congress was considering funding as much as $3 million for DC Metro upgrades.  However, politicians cautioned blaming a lack of previous funding for the accident and stated that any money granted for upgrades would be unrelated to the crash.

House Democratic Leader Steny H. Hoyer of Maryland said Congress might consider providing more money to modernize Washington's subway system if it turns out that a funding shortage was a contributing factor in Monday's deadly rush-hour crash that killed at least nine people.

It is rare to meet someone whose behavior and demeanor leaves you with nothing but kind words and warm thoughts of them.  Dennis Hawkins was that rare breed.  He was kind, caring, and loved the Lord.  Three weeks ago we were at a repast for another dear family member.  We talked about GOD, forgiveness and loving unconditionally.  Dennis gave his insight and thoughts on these subjects and there is no doubt that he was a believer.  To Dennis: absent from the body, present with the Lord.  I know you are in his presence. Thank you for leaving us with such fond memories and for being a good example of how to walk the path less traveled.

Friends of possible victims and injured should be given the same consideration when they are reaching out for information on their loved ones. My friend who is a Hazard Material Safety Specialist with the Fed. Railroad Admin. might have been a casualty of this horrific accident and I had no way of getting any (and still unable) information whether he is alive and injured in some area hospital. I wish if he is reading this message, he's safe at home watching a hockey game or selling his slides on EBAY./

I grew up around Mr. Dennis Hawkins, and I KNOW that he is in the Lord's presence! At the time in my childhood, we attended the same church in DC, were he was a DEVOTED and DEDICATED member. In fact, the reason why he was on that train was to go to Bible Study. He is sorely missed, but he lived the life most only talk about. This here, was a TRUE MAN OF GOD. Go ahead Dennis. Get your praise in! I'll see you again one day!

Prayers to the victims and their families. Have a brother who was in Washington the same day for a week and still I and his family (2 kids and wife) do not have any news from him. Could you please inform us (on my email) whether he is among the list of victims? His name is Emmanuel Rugira, 1.81 m , black, bold with a little moustache, he is of Rwandese nationality.

God bless you

Dennis Hawkins was a true man of God. He understood that this world was notg his home and that God sat on the throne and He (God) is in control. Growing up at Bethesda Baptist Church where Dennis was a member I saw him as a teacher, role model and inspiration for how a Christian man should walk. He taught me so many things and did it in the most humble way possible. If I could quote Dennis one last time "Don't cry for me cause I'm with "my Jesus"".

Uncle Dennis- Love you - Kevin W. Brown
