DC: Seasons Greetings to G20
Washington, DC – Even by DC protest standards, the Friday afternoon gathering of 1,000s in the Woodley Park area centered around the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel was very strange. Many in the assemblage were carrying large Chinese flags towering over their heads and small American flags sticking out of their pockets. Most of the banners were in Chinese with the only characters recognizable to English speakers being a “20”. So, all these people who came in on buses with license plates ranging from Maryland to New York were trying to say something about the G20 conference being held at the National Building Museum. But, who were they trying to say it to.? Apparently, they were showing support for Chinese President Hu Jintao's delegation . This just across the bridge from the old Chinese Embassy which has seen many Free Tibet protests over the years with signs in English.

There was one flag with a banner from an Chinese American group, but again, it was all in Chinese with the exception of the group's name. Dressed performers filled the place and what appears to be a celebration, is still ongoing.
