Washington, DC - DC police locking down Neighborhood Safety Zones is just one example of DC's institutionalized “papers, please” mentality. It is not just the police and not just the government. The executive editor of the Washington Post's online division, Jim Brady recently called for a proper id policy for people daring to comment on Post content. In cnet article he is quoted, “I don't know whether we do it with a credit card number, a driver's license or passport, but I think making people responsible would raise the level of discourse. ”
