A seven-year-old girl is among eight Finnish bus passengers that have been killed in an accident near Spain's southern coastal town of Benalmadena.

Another 16 people on the bus were injured, some seriously, when it collided with another vehicle and overturned on the AP-7 coastal highway, a police spokeswoman said. All of the bus passengers were from Finland.

Police arrested the driver of the other vehicle after he failed a blood alcohol test, the spokeswoman said, without giving her name in line with police policy.

She said some of the injured were in serious condition in local hospitals.

The eastbound lanes on the AP-7 highway were closed, local media reported.
